Trash Restrictions
Below is a list of items that CAN NOT be picked up with regular household trash due to landfills not being allowed to accept them.
Appliances which once contained Freon:(refrigerators, a/c’s, etc): Any appliance which contained Freon or like refrigerant in it at one time must have a certified technician remove the Freon from the appliance system Before that appliance can be picked up for disposal. Once the technician removes the Freon the technician will tag it with a certification and then IESI Disposal will be able to pick up the appliance for disposal.
NOTE: Appliances not certified by a technician which no longer contains Freon CANNOT be picked up for disposal, even though the Freon is no longer in the appliance system. Technicians can be found by contacting local appliance stores and repair shops.
Batteries:Battery cores can be exchanged at the time of purchase of a new battery. If you are not purchasing a new battery and simply must dispose of a old battery most auto parts stores will take them for a small fee.
Chemicals, pesticides, ETC.: Any of this type of material should be carefully disposed of by following the procedures described on the label of the container. Liquid Paints: Paints that are still in liquid form cannot be put in the landfill. You may dispose of it by (1) contact local paint stores to see if they recycle paint. (Sherwin Williams does in some locations) or (2) Remove the paint and then it can be picked up by IESI and Taken to the landfill. Oil, grease and other lubricants: These items are not acceptable in any landfill. Please contact local auto stores (Pep Boys in De Soto, (972) 228-0963) for recycling procedures.
Tires:Tires cannot be placed in the landfill in their whole state. Homeowners may dispose of them by either (1) Cutting them into four quarters (not recommended) or (2) Taking them to an auto store that usually sends them to a tire recycling company.
Regulations and environmental laws cause changes in these procedures from time to time. If you have a question about any of these procedures, the items listed, or another item please contact IESI Disposal Service (972) 923-9674
