LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, 2006 – 5:30 PM

MINUTES
President Diana Merrill-Claussen called the meeting to order at 5:47 PM and a quorum was present.
Approval of the May 16 and June 20, 2006 meetings’ minutes. Moved by Leggitt, McAdams seconded. Motion carried.
Welcome and orientation of new board members—No new members present. Wooley was given a Public Library Advisory Board Handbook. Judy Grant, City Secretary, has a DVD that can be checked out for the Open Meetings Act Orientation. www.tsl.state.tx.us is the state library website with information. www.txla.org is the Texas Library Association’s website. NETLS Lay Representative, Reese, did online classes during the month of July. Restrict emails to Library Advisory Board business.
Citizen’s Comments—no citizens present at this meeting
Open Session
A. Consideration of approving a procedure for material selection and reconsideration. Tabled until next meeting.
B. Consideration of approving NETLS Lay Representative and Alternate. Tabled until next meeting. Let Loucks or Merrill-Claussen know if you or someone you know is interested (they do not need to be a board member). Next NETLS meeting is in September.
C. Consideration of approving suggested new library hours. M-Th 11-7 and F/Sa 1-5. Moved by Reese, Leggitt seconded. Motion carried.
D. Consideration of approving Board Events Committee. LEAF (Library Educational Arts Foundation). Possible members are Merrill-Claussen and McAdams. Committee will need to be able to plan a year in advance.
Director’s Report—Founder’s Day will be held on September 9th. Local artists will be presenting “Art in the Park” as part of LEAF. Next board meeting will be on September 5th at 6:00 PM. New shelves were installed using part of the Lone Star Grant. Lone Star grant will be larger in 2008 and will include Collection Development funds.
A special “thank you” to Terry McAdams for working so diligently to get the Library mentioned in the paper! Her hard work is not going unnoticed.
Discussion of a Friends of the Library program. Wooley will check into the possibility of getting Loucks scheduled for a PTV meeting at an elementary school. Leggitt presented information about “Books for Babies.”
