Patrons wishing to request reconsideration of library materials should ask for a reconsideration form from library staff. All fields on this form must be completed and returned to library staff. Once the form is returned a Review Committee will be selected, consisting of:
- The Library Director
- Library Advisory Board Member
- Primary Selector (may be the Director)
Review Process
- Each committee member will read or review the materials in question within 30 days.
- The Director will set a meeting date to review the request no later than 60 days after receiving the request for reconsideration.
- The Director will locate at least 2 professional-level reviews of the material, if possible
- The Committee will meet and review the material and the reviews and make a decision concerning the Request, in keeping with the criteria set out in the Materials Selection Policy. The committee’s decision shall be advisory only.
- The Director will send a letter to the patron advising the patron of the committee’s recommendation within 90 days of receiving the request for reconsideration.
- Copies of the letter will be sent to the Selector(s).
- Each letter will include the following: The Library Bill of Rights; Freedom to Read Statement; Any reviews on the material; Information on the author’s or title’s awards or merits.
- Items may be submitted for reconsideration only once within any twelve month period
